The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two others, including an Interim Resolution Professional of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for demanding a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. At the time of arrest, these people were taking Rs 2 lakh as a bribe out of the demanded amount of Rs 20 lakh.
According to a CBI spokesperson, those arrested include Subrata Meti of the National Company Law Tribunal, Mumbai, and Ruchit Tanka and Ashish Somani, the proprietors of Navi Mumbai-based RJ Jewelers.
How much bribe is being sought?
According to the CBI, in this case the complainant had given a complaint to the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI that a bribe of Rs 20 lakh was being sought by an internal NCLT professional to settle the NCLT case of the complainant’s company. It is also alleged that it was told by this NCLT officer that out of this the first installment would be ₹ 200000 and a private person would come to him to take this installment.
According to the allegation, the complainant was told that this private man would come to his Pune-based company to collect the bribe amount. Based on the complaint, the CBI conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter. On finding important facts during this investigation, the CBI registered a case against this NCLT officer and others under criminal sections.
CBI arrested by laying a trap
After this, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the people who were taking partial payment of two lakh rupees. Those arrested were the owner and his associates of a Mumbai-based jewelery firm. Later, the CBI also arrested the said officer of NCLT in this case.
Immediately after the arrest, raids were conducted on the places of all these, during this raid, many incriminating documents and other items have been recovered, the CBI will present these three before the special court of Mumbai.
